In 1902 the Circuit des Ardennes hosted an entry grid in Bastogne of 22 cars and 10 motorcycles, competing on six laps of a route passing through the heart of the Ardennes and including Neufchâteau and Habay la Neuve.

This event caused a considerable stir that echoed well beyond Belgium’s borders, and in the following years the Circuit des Ardennes was a major event in which numerous marques and drivers gained fame.

The champions in the ‘car’ class were successively:
1902 - Charles Jarrott (GB) on Panhard Levassor
1903 - Pierre de Crawhez (B) on Panhard Levassor
1904 - Georges Heath (GB) on Panhard Levassor
1905 - Victor Hemery (F) on Darracq
1906 - Duray (B) on Lorraine Dietrich
1907 - Baron de Caters (B) on Mercedes (formule libre)
         - Moore Brabazon (GB) Minerva (Kaiserpreis)
